Abstract

The society of Mahabharata period was mainly based on varna system. Family was an important unit of the society. Man and Woman were the two main parts of the family. It mainly aims to analyse the changing social, educational and familial status of women in the society during the Mahabharata era. In the society, the right to education was mainly limited to the women of royal families and common women were confined to the household work. During the Mahabharata period Child marriage, Polygamy, Polygyny, Polyandry, the practice of Sati and Niyoga system were prevalent.
